Freight charges are fees paid to carriers which may be cargo airlines or shipping companies while clearing Charges on the other hand are paid to Government Agencies, Handling company, Federal Airport Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), and other stake holders.

These depends on the nature of the goods in question. Some items such as medical devices, chemicals, food items, are regulated and require import/export permits which can be obtained from the relevant reguulatory agency such as NAFDAC.

Others such as personal effects like some categories of clothing do not require, food items, foodstuff, do not require import/export permit. Some other items such as narcotics are also contraband.
